One of the most common elbow manufacturing processes for making elbows from titanium tube is the mandrel method, which is a thermoforming method.

In this method, the pipe is cut to the required length and pushed with the aid of a hydraulic plunger. An induction heating coil heats the pipe, which is then pushed through a mold called a "mandrel" that allows the pipe to expand and bend at the same time.


This method can be used to manufacture a wide range of elbow diameters. In this graphic, you can see that the pipe was cut to the desired length in the first step. This cut tube is then placed on the mandrel. Next, with the help of hydraulic tools, the tube is pushed onto the die, while the induction coil heats the tube to form the elbow. Finally, the elbow is sent for heat treatment and machining before visual and dimensional inspection.
