Tantalum Round Bar ASTM B365 Purity Tantalum Bars/Rods
Tantalum is a chemical element with the symbol Ta and atomic number 73. Previously known as tantalium, it is named after Tantalus, a villain from Greek mythology. Tantalum is a rare, hard, blue-gray, lustrous transition metal that is highly corrosion-resistant.
Tantalum is a shiny, silvery metal which is soft when is pure. It is almost immune to chemical attack at temperatures below 150 C. Tantalum is virtually resistant to corrosion due to an oxide film on its surface.
Known for its excellent corrosion resistance, tantalum is used in surgical implants, screws and other components that remain in the body in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in capacitors. Tantalum is extracted from its natural concentrate by leaching in sulfuric and hydrofluoric acids.
